I was an art educator in the public schools for 33 years and I am also a life-long artist.  Today, I spend my days creating clay chimes with whimsical bird or fish designs. I make my own clay stamps of insects, birds, flowers and fish.  These stamps are like an alphabet I use to create designs on my chimes. I also like using natural items to texture the clay. I search my yard for interesting leaves or weeds that I can press into soft clay to texture my cylindrical forms.   I find the natural world in my back yard an inspiration.  I watch for birds.  I notice flowers.

I enjoy hand building in clay and using underglazes to stain the textures I create with my stamps.  I am drawn to earth tones of brown and green when pressing plants into clay, but I also like vibrant cheerful color with my stamped images. I am excited by the idea that a clay form can be visually charming but also audibly soothing.  I believe art should daily bring joy.

I was trained in many media with my degrees in Art and Art Education, but in my last teaching post I was a high school crafts teacher. Stitching, weaving, basketry and clay work were my world and these still influence my art today.  I love making useful things into things of beauty.

I recently moved from the sunny south to northeast Ohio. My house is settled in beautiful woods with deer, squirrels, and rabbits. The trees are so beautiful and there is much to look at for art inspiration. I hope to continue participating in art festivals and selling my work on my Etsy store.
